Kate Winters has won immortality.Last year, I read and adored The Goddess Test. I was super giddy to get my hands on an early copy of Goddess Interrupted!
But if she wants a life in the Underworld with Henry, she’ll have to fight for it.
Becoming immortal wasn’t supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she’s as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he’s becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate’s coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans.
As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.
Henry’s first wife, Persephone. (Goodreads)
If you have not read The Goddess Test yet, I suggest you do so before reading this review. However, I will try to keep it as spoiler-free as possible.
Goddess Interrupted picks up six months after The Goddess Test left off. Kate is heading home from her six month say in Greece with her best friend, James. She’s expecting a warm welcome from her new husband Henry upon her return, and unfortunately, it doesn’t happen. Instead she finds herself in the middle of a war between the gods and goddesses, and the King of the Titans.
Kate, who was such a strong character in the first book, was a bit insecure about herself after her trip back from Greece. Even the reassurance from her mom and fellow gods and goddesses doesn’t seem to help her with this insecurity. She was just very unsure about the whole underworld situation, and that’s totally to be expected for what’s she was going through. I do feel that in the beginning she was ready to give up too quickly, but I am glad that in the end she is strong for her family and friends.
I love Henry. I have loved him since I met him in the first book. There is something about him that is super mysterious and intense, and I love that in a male lead character. I would definitely go as far as to say he’s one of my most favorite male characters in YA. Although I spent a huge chunk of the book wanting to smack some sense into his handsome little head, I still love him. His relationship with Kate, when they are both working at it, is super sweet and romantic, and I absolutely adore their moments together.
The secondary characters in the book are still as interesting as always. I love Kate’s mom, Diana. Ava and James were great friends for Kate. The introduction of Persephone, who is Kate’s sister, and Henry’s ex, is a little intense. I can honestly say she wasn’t at all what I was expecting.
The ending of the book is definitely a cliffhanger, and I was literally yelling at the book because of what happened. Just thinking of it again is getting me worked up! I need the next book, NOW!
When I read a book, I want to be able to let go and get totally lost in the story. That’s exactly what happened with this book. The storyline and pacing kept me hook, and I was lost in the world that Carter created. The only thing that kind disappointed me about this book was that I finished it so quickly!
Overall, if you enjoyed The Goddess Test, you’re definitely going to love Goddess Interrupted! I adore this series, and cannot wait to get my hands on Goddess Inherited!
I love the sound of Henry! I haven't actually read book 1 yet. I was wary of it at first but I kind of want to give it a try now that I'm seeing all the reviews for this one!
ReplyDeleteEEEEEEE! Christy! I am so excited to read this and agh, this cliffhanger ending everyone is talking about has me SO intrigued. And a little scared. I have an ARC of this coming soon *squee* So I'm stalking my mailbox until it arrives. I am really curious to see what Persephone's character is like in this and the war Kate has caught herself in the middle of. Brilliant review!
ReplyDelete*squee* I cannot WAIT to read this. I hope to get to it soon. I also loved how strong Kate was in The Goddess Test and I'm glad to see that although she's unsure, she is still, in the end, the same Kate we adore. And Henry. He is TOTALLY swoon-worthy. Overall, Christy, you make this book sound so amazing!

Well, when you mention battles and war and complexes pertaining to the King of the EFFING Titans, I'm gonna get a TAD more excited to read the sequel! I fell into the minority, I suppose, with The Goddess Test, because I wasn't head over heels for any aspect of it. While it's tough to resist handsome men, I felt as if we didn't get enough of Henry to say that we know him in the first book, which was a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteBUT, from reading review, I can instantly tell that the intensity has been taken a up a notch. And maybe I won't find myself so disinterested in the plot like last time. I have an e-ARC of this and it's going to be hard resisting it until March (I want to review it closer to the release date). Thanks, Christi, for raising some excitement in me!

Glad you liked this book :) !! I should probably check out the first book in the series .. Thanks for the review :)
ReplyDeleteI am excited to meet Persephone! I want to see what she is like in this tale, and I am wanting more Henry for sure.
ReplyDeleteI am curious (and scared) to read this cliffhanger everyone is talking about.
Your review has made me want to read this right now. It's totally going to be my weekend read.
I am so looking forward to reading this book. I loved The Goddess Test!
ReplyDeleteAmazing review, Christy!! I agree, Henry is such a great character! I just love him! I'm so glad you loved this one! I need the next book now!!
ReplyDeleteThat ending was definitely intense! I was like NOOOOOOOOOOO! And then I just stared at the last page and cried a little that there was no more. While I like Henry, I do wish he would show just a little more emotion. He is Hades after all, it would be nice if he got upset just once! Can't wait for book 3 now!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed The Goddess Test and I can't wait to read Goddess Interrupted! I liked Henry but I didn't really warm up to him too much in the first book so I'm hoping this book makes me like him more. I'm also interested to see what Persephone is like. Great review :)
ReplyDeleteOMG. If The Goddess Test was 100% awesome, Goddess Interrupted is like 500% or something. The story just kept me hooked every single page. I love how brave Kate is, she's definitely grown though she still has a lot to learn about her new life among the gods. LOL! I wanted to smack Henry too! And you're so right. If there's one word to describe him, it would be intense. I usually hate cliffhanger endings, but this one I loved. It's one big WTF moment and I too need the next book NOW!!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't really get into the first book but so many people seemed to enjoy it. I'm glad you're still enjoying the series :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVED this one- I can't wait until I can read it (I was saving it for vacation next week :) )
ReplyDeletePersephone is in this one? SO EXCITING! Thanks for the great review (and being so thorough without having spoilers!
I'm going to be reading this soon and I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I loved reading your thoughts on this one. It's coming up soon on my to-read list!
